Dr James J Kim

Dr James Kim is a leading Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon based in Sydney, with extensive expertise in corrective jaw surgery and complex dentofacial conditions. He holds dual qualifications in dentistry from the University of Queensland and medicine from the Australian National University, and has undertaken extensive clinical training across major training centres in Australia.

Dr Kim completed his specialist surgical training at The Canberra Hospital and Westmead Hospital. He subsequently pursued advanced subspecialty training through highly competitive fellowship positions. He undertook a fellowship in Paediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, where he was closely involved in the surgical care of children with congenital, craniofacial, and cleft conditions. He then completed a second fellowship in Orthognathic and Trauma Surgery at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, gaining extensive experience in the management of complex facial deformities and major facial trauma.

Dr Kim is the Head of Department for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Westmead Hospital, one of Australia’s largest training centres, and is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. He holds an academic appointment as an Adjunct Associate Lecturer at the University of Sydney, contributing to the education of postgraduate orthodontic trainees in the multidisciplinary care of complex patients requiring surgery.

An active leader within the specialty, Dr Kim is a Board Director for the Australian & New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ANZAOMS) and serves as Chair of the NSW/ACT Regional Surgical Committee for the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

Dr Kim practices the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with a particular focus on orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery and surgical orthodontics. He leads one of the busiest orthognathic practices in Australia, seeing hundreds of patients each year for corrective jaw surgery.
